After the terrible accident of the five boys, we collected money for the KNRM. Seb van den Berg had T-shirts made after Bas Spaans made the logo with the five herrings / fish. Seb van de Berg asked me to use Aloha as a sales channel through our reach and our webshop. All to donate the money to the KNRM, which still depends on donations.

Who were the five boys before me, Daphne and Aloha? Two of them, Joost and Pim, were instructors who taught with us and one of the boys, Max, is the son of my school friend. So it came very close to us not just because they were surfers.
In addition, Brend (photo: the left) works as a volunteer at the KNRM in Scheveningen! He was one of the rescuers that terrible day on the Beluga. He also worked with us at the surf school when he was about 17 years old, he learned to surf from Maurice Kolijn. He is the second beach lifeguard in the Netherlands (1998). Brend’s father (our electrician for 20 years) has also worked for years at the KNRM.
With Aloha we have been connected to the KNRM for 20 years, not only because of Brend vd Berg but also Jaap Pronk. It contributed to Aloha’s right to exist. He has informed the municipality that he is putting his hand in the fire when it comes to safely giving surf lessons because nothing has ever happened to Aloha’s teachers. This was 15 years ago. All in all, even more reasons to mean something for the KNRM.

Today we had contact with Mr. Verbaan of the KNRM to tell the good news. We sold 150 t-shirts and thus raised an amount of € 2,757. We will, as Aloha, supplement this up to € 3,000.
We will transfer this amount to the crowdfunding campaign for the new boat ‘Jaap Pronk’ for the KNRM. The Beluga is due for replacement after thirty years of loyal service. Tomorrow I will post this whole story with the photo in the crowfundingsactie scheveningen.samenvoorknrm.nl
The KNRM needs € 300,000 for the new boat. The first donations up to an amount of € 50,000 are doubled when the money raised is placed.

Wonderful how this whole story comes together and what a symbolism … our goal has been able to contribute something together with all the people who have bought a t-shirt with the 5 pegs !!
